Dr. Amr Talaat

Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Egypt

Dr. Amr Ahmed Samih Talaat was born on March 9, 1961, in Egypt. He has served as the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt since June 14, 2018.

Prior to his ministerial appointment, Dr. Talaat held several leadership roles in the private sector, including serving as the General Manager of IBM Egypt, where he oversaw strategic partnerships, systems integration, and technology operations.

Since 2007, he has also served as an Assistant Professor at Cairo University. His career in the communications and information technology field spans more than three decades.

Dr. Talaat played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing Egypt’s national digital transformation strategy. His efforts led to the launch of the “Digital Egypt” platform, the enactment of the Data Protection Law, and the establishment of the National Council for Artificial Intelligence, the Supreme Council for the Digital Society, and the Regional Innovation City, and support for comprehensive technical and digital education.
