Dr. Rania Al-Mashat
Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Egypt
Dr. Rania Abdel Moneim Al-Mashat was born on 20 June 1975 in Menoufia Governorate. She has served as Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation since 3 July 2024, following her role as Minister of International Cooperation from December 2019 to July 2024. She was also the country’s first Minister of Tourism, serving from January 2018 to December 2019.
Dr. Al-Mashat earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the American University in Cairo in 1995, followed by a Master's degree in Economics, specializing in Macroeconomics and International Economics, in 1998. She obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2001. She has also completed executive programs in leadership and public policy at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
Prior to her ministerial roles, she worked as a senior expert and economist in financial funds and institutions such as the Central Bank of Egypt, where she served as Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy (2005–2016) and as a consultant and researcher at the International Monetary Fund (2001–2005 and 2016–2018).
Dr. Al-Mashat led the development of a national platform for green growth and the mobilization of climate finance. She managed a development cooperation portfolio exceeding US$25 billion.
