Karim Almahayni

Graduated from the Mohammed bin Rashid Scholarship - University of Oxford

Karim Almahayni obtained his BEng in Chemical Engineering (with distinction, 2019) from the University of Sheffield. Following his bachelor’s degree, he completed an MSc in Pharmacology (with distinction, 2020) on a full scholarship at the University of Oxford, as an Oxford-Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation scholar. Since 2021, Karim is a doctoral researcher at Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Germany, where he exploits modern optical tools to scrutinize and study biological systems. Karim is eager to exploit his interdisciplinary science and engineering academic background to make a positive change in this world.

Outside of work, Karim is an academic mentor at the Syrian Youth Empowerment Initiative and the German Syrian Research Society, where he helps refugees access higher education. In his free time, he loves to read, to hike, and to play basketball.
