Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar
Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, Egypt
Dr. Khaled Atef Abdel Ghaffar has been Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population of the Arab Republic of Egypt since August 14, 2022. He previously served as Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research from February 16, 2017 to August 13, 2022. He was Acting Minister of Health from October 28, 2021 to August 13, 2022.
He was born on November 24, 1962. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery from Cairo University in 1984, a Master's degree in Oral Medicine and Periodontal Treatment in 1989, and a Ph.D. in the same specialty in 1995 from Cairo University and the University of Texas.
He served as Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontal Treatment at the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University, from 2009 to 2014. He then became Dean of the Faculty from 2014 to 2016, and Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs from 2016 to 2017, prior to assuming ministerial roles. He received the State Encouragement Award in Medical Sciences, along with dozens of local and international research awards. He has published approximately 20 international research papers and supervised over 150 master’s and doctoral theses.
