Knowledge Summit 2018 Honours Winners of 5th Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award

Winners of the fifth edition of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award (MBRKA) were honoured at the Knowledge Summit 2018, organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) on December 5-6 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and MBRF Chairman H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honoured the winners of the USD1-million prize, namely: The Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, the Institute of International Education (IIE), the Saudi Digital Library (SDL), and the Amersi Foundation.

The Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation is an Egyptian charity NGO founded to establish a medical centre of excellence and international standing in Egypt dedicated to cardiovascular surgery, treatment and research, while the Institute of International Education is a non-profit global education organisation with 18 offices worldwide seeking to advance scholarship and promote cultural understanding.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Digital Library has the largest collection of digital information resources in the Arab World, with more than 680,000 digital books and 174 international and Arab databases for academic articles and multimedia materials, and the Amersi Foundation supports causes and charities for education and youth empowerment.

The Award seeks to honour knowledge pioneers – individuals or organisations – from all around the world, who have made great knowledge contributions to the world that have effectively enhanced the production and dissemination of knowledge across all sectors. MBRKA sheds light on inspirational success stories who have set an example of charity and excellence for all members of the community.

Candidates for the Mohammed Bin Rashid Knowledge Award come from various disciplines and backgrounds, including development, innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, developing academic institutions, scientific research, and information communication technology. Categories eligible for the Award consist of individuals from the UAE or abroad, government entities and institutions, in addition to regional and international companies and organisations. The Award, however, cannot be given posthumously.
