WFP Country Director in UAE and Representative for the GCC Region
Abdel Mageed Yahia is the WFP Director in the UAE and Representative to GCC. He has above 30 years of experience in the humanitarian field in both emergency and development settings. Abdel Mageed started his career with WFP in Rwanda in 1997 and has since served in various fields and headquarter offices in Malawi, Burundi, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Ivory coast, Liberia, Chad, Niger, Sudan and Italy.
As WFP Representative in Jordan, Abdel Mageed pioneered the introduction and implementation of innovative technology-based solutions including blockchain, a biometric identification platform (IRIS scan) for redeeming humanitarian relief, and the introduction of hydroponic containers for the production of animal-feed for poor Jordanians.
Abdel Mageed’s career with the UN began in Sudan under Operation Lifeline Sudan (OLS); the first mission under the UN jurisdiction to provide humanitarian relief in South Sudan. Abdel Mageed, a national of Sudan, holds a law degree from Morocco.
