Co-Founder, Women in AI & Assistant Professor, Director of SMART Lab, NYUAD
Hanan Salam is an AI and robotics expert, academic, and entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of Women in AI, an international non-profit “do-tank” with a mission to close the gender gap in the field of Artificial Intelligence through education, research, and events.
She is currently an Assistant Professor in Computer Science and the Director of the Social Machines and Robotics (SMART) Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi. The SMART Lab focuses on developing smart machines endowed with social and emotional intelligence and applying them in education and well-being.
Hanan is also an expert member of UNESCO’s Women4EthicalAI platform, a multi-stakeholder collaborative initiative that supports efforts by governments and companies to ensure women are equally represented in the design, use, and deployment of AI, and to promote trustworthy, gender-friendly, and inclusive AI systems.
She is an advocate for technology for the common good and an activist for women’s empowerment.
