Emeritus Professor of Education and Economic Performance at Oxford University, Emeritus Fellow in Economics at Pembroke College Oxford and Extraordinary Professor of Education and Economic Performance at Maastricht University.
For over 15 years, Ken was Director of SKOPE, a multidisciplinary research centre on skills, knowledge and organisational performance based at Oxford University. He is an economist and has published widely on labour economics, human resource management, the economics of education and policy analysis.
His first job was in Her Majesty’s Treasury but he has spent most of his career as an academic in Oxford. However, he has made frequent forays into UK government circles, most notably as Economic Director of the UK’s former National Economic Development Office. Currently he is a member of the UK Armed Forces Pay Review Body. He has extensive experience in providing consultancy and advice to public and private sector organisations at home and abroad, and has served on many national and international committees, for example as chair of the international advisory group on the background questionnaire of the OECD’s PIAAC study. He is also an editor of a recently published OUP Handbook on Skills and Training.
