Dr. Elizabeth F. Churchill has a background in psychology, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science. Her specialty is Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and honorary doctorates from the University of Sussex and the University of Stockholm.
Recently joining MBZUAI, Dr. Churchill is building a new department focused on human-centered AI.
She has built research teams at Google, eBay, Yahoo, PARC, and FujiXerox.
Dr. Churchill is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery's (ACM) CHI Academy, an ACM Fellow, and an ACM Distinguished Speaker. She served as ACM's Vice President from 2018 to 2020.
In 2016, she received a Citris-Banatao Institute Athena Award for Women in Technology for her executive leadership. She has been recognized as one of the top women leaders in UX over the last several years and has received ACM SIGCHI's Lifetime Service Award (2023) and ACM's Lifetime Practice Award (2024).
