Director, University of Michigan Center for Innovation
As the inaugural director of UMCI, Scott Shireman is building and leading an organization designed to be a world-class center for research, education, and entrepreneurship. The center’s mission is to advance innovation and community development focused on talent and promote inclusive economic growth by stimulating economic development in Detroit.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Scott served as the Global Head of Coursera for Campus, representing Coursera internationally and regularly presenting on topics such as the future of higher education and the need for stronger alignment between academic programs and industry requirements.
Before joining Coursera, Scott was the Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer at the University of California, Berkeley Extension, where he drove significant growth by launching new academic programs developed through partnerships with schools and colleges across the campus.
