Chief of Office, Regional Office for Arab States, UNDRR
Sujit Kumar Mohanty is the Chief of United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Regional Office for Arab States. Before coming to Egypt he worked as the Head a.i and Regional Platform Coordinator for the UNDRR Asia Pacific office in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sujit has over 19 years of experience in the field of disaster risk management, humanitarian coordination, development, and climate change. He also worked with a number of UN organizations such as UN Office for Humanitarian Coordination (UNOCHA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and UNDRR headquarters in Geneva.
Sujit led the design and implementation of the ‘Hyogo Framework for Action Monitor’, and co-authored publications such as the Global Assessment Report in 2011 and Asia Pacific Disaster Report in 2012.
Prior to UNDRR, he worked with UNOCHA in Sri Lanka as a Chief Technical Adviser for Risk Information Systems in 2005 and as a Manager at Disaster Information Systems in UNDP, India from 2000 – 2005.
Sujit is an Indian national, holding dual Masters degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science.
