Director-General, King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language
Professor Abdullah bin Saleh bin Suleiman Al-Washmi is Secretary General of the King Salman International Academy for Arabic Language and Professor of Rhetoric and Criticism at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. He serves on the boards of the King Abdulaziz Public Library, the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah and in Damascus, and chairs the Council for Academic Accreditation of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies Programmes.
He previously served as Secretary General of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for the Arabic Language, Acting Director of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Center for Planning and Language Policies, and Chairman of the Riyadh Literary Club. He founded and led the “Arabic Language Month in the World” programme, supervised leading Arabic language journals, and represented Saudi Arabia in many international cultural and scientific forums.
Professor Al-Washmi is also an accomplished poet and critic, with several published works on Arabic poetry and literary criticism. His contributions have been recognised with major honours, including the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Award for Poetic Creativity and an honorary doctorate from Malang State University in Indonesia.
