Tarek Alkhoury is an international climate strategist with 15+ years shaping environmental policy, climate action, and sustainable development. As UNEP’s Regional Coordinator for Climate Action in West Asia, he oversees a multi-million portfolio on mitigation, adaptation, carbon markets, and transparency, while mobilizing resources from global climate funds.
He advises governments on low-carbon strategies, NDC financing, and Paris Agreement implementation, and supports Arab negotiators at COPs and high-level forums. Previously, he led UNEP’s regional programme on Resource Efficiency, pioneering initiatives in circular economy, food waste reduction, sustainable fashion, and green growth. Earlier, with UN-Habitat, he advanced land governance and housing, co-leading the first Arab Land Conference and slum-upgrading efforts across Africa and the Middle East.
An architect by training, Tarek holds a Master’s in Urban & Regional Planning (Reims University, France) and a Specialized Master’s in Project & Programme Management (SKEMA Business School, France). He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
