Former Head of Foresight and Futures Literacy, UNESCO
Riel Miller is a Canadian-French futurist and educator, widely recognized for pioneering the field of futures literacy and the discipline of anticipation. He served as Head of Foresight at UNESCO in Paris and has worked extensively in government, academia, and international organizations, including the OECD and the Ontario public service. In 2005, he founded xperidox, a consultancy focused on using the future more effectively.
Since 2022, he has been a Senior Fellow at multiple institutions, including the National School of Government (South Africa), McMaster University (Canada), and the Futures Literacy Incubator at Future Africa, University of Pretoria. He has also held visiting positions at Stanford University, East China Normal University, and the University of Corsica, among others.
Miller is an accomplished keynote speaker, researcher, and author, publishing widely on topics such as the future of education, leadership, and productivity. He serves on editorial boards of major futures journals and aims to leverage complex systems thinking to enhance humanity’s capacity for freedom and foresight.
