Saudi Arabia ranks first globally in Technical and Vocational Education and Training based on Global Knowledge Index 2022
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been ranked first globally in the percentage of students enrolled in post-secondary non-tertiary education (ISCED 4) in technical and vocational programs based on Global Knowledge Index 2022, which is issued by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation in collaboration with United Nations Development Program, that provides reliable data to help countries and decision makers to understand and face the real transformations and challenges as well as discovering the future prospects and potential paths.
The Global Knowledge Index contains seven composite sub-indices that focus on a performance of six vital knowledge sectors: Pre-University Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Higher Education, Information and Communications Technology, Research, Development and Innovation, Economy; besides, a sub-index special for Enabling Environment that diagnoses social, political, economic, healthy and environmental context for those sectors.
On this occasion, the Governor of TVTC, H.E. Dr. Ahmad bin Fahad Al-fahaid, extended his congratulations and blessings to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to the Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, – may God protect them both –, for achieving Saudi Arabia first rank in number of vital fields in the Global Knowledge Index.
In addition, His Excellency emphasized that the attaining the technical and vocational training sector for the first rank in the percentage of students enrolled in post-secondary non-tertiary education (ISCED 4) in technical and vocational programs, reflects the unlimited governmental generous interest and support from the wise leadership in the Kingdom, and its keenness to qualify male and female citizens and develop their skills to be active and contributing elements in the development renaissance in the country.
Dr. Al-Fahaid explained that the annual expansion of the capacity in colleges and institutes is considered one of the objectives of TVTC that it has worked on since the launch of the National Vision 2030, whereas in 2021 AD, the target was 24%, and TVTC was able to attract more than 28% of high school graduates. Furthermore, in 2022 AD the target of TVTC was to accept 26% of high school graduates to join technical training programs.
The Governor of TVTC added that there are several initiatives and programs that TVTC worked on which has enabled it to achieve its goals in this aspect, the most prominent initiatives are : expanding bachelor’s programs, expanding training programs begins with employment, providing distinguished programs and specializations that are compatible with the needs of the current and future labor market in the Kingdom, launching several programs to employ male and female graduates, as well as the expansion of training and development programs for women.
It is worth noting that the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation attained, according to the results of the Global Knowledge Index in 2021 AD, the ninth rank globally, after it was ranked 12th in 2020 AD, 86th in 2019 AD, and 117th in 2018 AD.
